ZOE - Bring the Life of God into South Albany Through Educational Programs
Food, Food, Food
Realizing that kids love to eat, healthy meals are served during every program at Club Zoe. The meals are monitored by the NY State Department of Health and meet the government’s nutrition guidelines. A commercial kitchen is under construction for the kids to develop their culinary skills and the staff to prepare hot meals for the kids.
*Approximately 300 meals are served on site to Club Zoe’s program participants each month.
Basketball and Recreation Program
Through the basketball program, young people have the opportunity to develop basketball skills in a safe, supervised environment. Other activities include jumping rope, a horizontal rock climbing wall, foosball, a pool table, and arcade games.
Scouting Program
Scout Troop 413 serves youth from 11 to 16 years old. The boys go on camping trips, field trips to professional sporting events, serve as color guards at formal banquets, march in parades, and discover the friendship that being part of a troop can bring. The structure of scouting also provides goals to encourage the boys to learn new skills, and master new tasks by earning badges to progress through the ranks to earn their Eagle Scout Award. A Venturing Troop for teens forteens 15 to 18 years of age is also part of the scouting program at Club Zoe.
*Approximately 12 scouts participate in Troop 413, and 9 scouts in the Venturing Troop.
Supplemental Educational Services
Supplemental Educational Services (SES) is a formal tutoring program of Reigning Life Family Church currently for middle school students who attend Hackett Middle School. The program is run in conjunction with The Bridge After School Program. Tutoring is provided by trained tutors working with students on wireless Dell laptops using the Passkey Learning Systems, an online academic program. This program is monitored by the New York State Department of Education.
*Twelve Students participate in the SES program.
The Bridge After School Program
The Bridge After School Program offers homework help, recreation, enrichment activities, a healthy meal, and college visitation opportunities to the program participants. The program gives young people a supervised place to go after school where they gain a sense of belonging and family. Field trips have included the Basketball Hall of Fame, The Great Escape, snow boarding, ice skating, and weekly bowling trips during the summer session. The Bridge After-School Program serves youth attending Hackett or Livingston Middle Schools, but plans to expand to include high school students in the Fall of 2008.
*Twelve students participate in the Bridge after-school program.
Youth REmix
The focus of Youth Remix is to provide youth the opportunity to come together for fun, recreation, and food every Friday night from 7:30 to 10:00pm. Youth Remix is for youth from 13 to 18 years old. The teens play basketball, video games, chess, pool, watch sporting events on a big screen television, and have the opportunity to participate in Gospel rap or hip-hop, Bible study, and praise dance.
*Approxiamtely 60 youth attend Youth REmix each week.
Study Buddies and SUNY Shadowing Program
Study Buddies is a weekly homework seesion for Club Zoe participants and students from the Presidential Honor Society at SUNY. The college students help the participants with homework and school subjects. The Presidential Honor Society also invites the program participants to attend campus events, tour the campus, and discover the joys and benefits of college life.
*Approximately 6 students attend Study Buddies and 10 students participate in the
Shadowing program.
Past Program
Joshua’s Army was a group of urban youth who sang and performed at church and community events. The Scooby-Doo Project was a series of dog training classes conducted by a professional dog trainer, twelve youth, and Scooby-Doo, the club mascot. The project culminated in three star students and Scooby-Doo training on a professional agility course. Bicycles 4 Success was a weekly bicycle repair class where the participants learned how to repair bicycles
